Albert Yefimov, Jian Form Instructor
Albert Yefimov was born in Moscow in 1970. While studying Computer Science
in Moscow Technical University, he started to practice Kekushinkai Karatedo
in 1987. Later he began learning Chen and Yang style taijiquan with Oleg
Tserne, the head of INBI Club. Since Scott Rodell's first visit to Russia
in 1991, Albert has been practicing Yangjia Michuan Taiji Quan.
He learned three-part form, tui-shou, sword and spear forms following
Michuan lineage. Yefimov travels extensively throughout the world to meet
outstanding masters of the art, studying different aspects of Chinese
martial arts. He has attended several workshops, lead by Wang Yennien,
the last patriarch of Michuan school. He also practice shuaijiao
(Chinese wrestling) which he learned from Yuan Jumou in France.
During last several years, Yefimov has taken part in several European
workshops, including the TaijiQuan and QiGong Forum in Prague in 2001,
where he tauhgt elementary push hands. During the last decade, Yefimov
has worked as Director of Great River Taoist Center in Moscow where students
have a chance to learn new aspects of taijiquan and practice martial application
of the art. Yefimovis a recognised by the European TaijiQuan and Qigong
Federation as a Taijiquan Instructor, as well as a member of Russian Wushu
Federation, Worldwide Federation of Yangjia Michuan TaijiQuan and European
College of MiChuan teachers. Yefimov has been teaching MiChuan TaijiQuan
since 1993, leading a small group of amateurs. However, he is not a professional
taijiquan teacher, becouse he is building his career mostly in telecommunication
industry. Now, he is getting MBA degree from Glasgow Strathclyde Business
School. Yefimov and his students often enter national and international
competition and they won several gold medals and cups in Russian and European
tournaments in 1999-2001. Yefimov is currently French National Push Hands
Champion.
Philip Tom , Quest Lecturer
Mr. Tom has more than 25 years' experience in research and restoration
of arms and armor, with an intimate knowledge of their historical development,
manufacturing technique and aesthetic traditions. He is the author of
"Some Notable Sabers of the Quing Dynasty in the Metropolitan Museum of
Art", to be published in 2001 in Metropolitan Museum Journal, Vol. 36.
He has addressed the Society of Ethnographic & Historical Edged Weapons
Collectors of Israel, lecturing on Ming and Quing armes-blanches, in Tel
Aviv in 2000. He has also been an Advisor on Chinese armament to the National
Maritime Museum in Haifa, Israel, for a special exhibition on piracy.
Mr. Tom was an historical consultant for a documentary telecast "Oriental
Firearms" (part of the Tales of the Gun series) distributed by "Oriental
Firearms" (part of the Tales of the Gun series) distributed by the History
Channel in 2000, and was the curator and conservator for "Sword & Brush:
Art from China's Martial Tradition", an exhibit at the Great River Taoist
Center in Washington DC in the fall of 1999. Mr. Tom has a Master of Arts
degree in History from the University of Hawaii, Manoa Campus.
